The society originally grew out of the choir and congregation of St John's Church at the very start of the 1950's, and still numbers among its patrons some of the original members who started us out all those years ago. Originally, the society produced exclusively Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, but more recently we have expanded our repertoire to include other well-known musicals.
We currently produce two shows per year. One is known as the 'Main Show', staged in October every year, and will be an operetta or well-known musical presented with full orchestra, original sets, hired costumes and theatre-style seating. The other is the 'Spring Show', usually put on in March and not advertised as a public performance. Patrons and friends take up all the seats, arranged around tables, with a fish and chip supper included in the admission price. The Spring Show is usually an in-house production, written and put together by members, with music usually provided by piano, bass and drums.
